Here is a really great hand written four page letter written and signed by Nathan Bedford Forrest in 1872. Forrest was serving as President of the Selma, Marion and Memphis Railroad and the letter is on their letterhead. In it, he writes to Col. Hunt in several topics, including a debt owed and the continued completion of the road.
I've tried to provide good photos while not giving away the contents. Forrest is of course a highly collectible and yet polarizing figure. Many will remember his stint with the KKK, while forgetting he ardently disavowed the group later in life. Many blacks, particularly those that knew him, considered him a friend, protector and advocate. Most histories don't want to write about that. Of course Civil War dated documents will reach five figures, so here is a chance to own a really nice, long and certified Forrest post war letter at a fraction of that price - don't miss it!
