FIRST EDITION VERY GOOD + CONDITION PROTECTED IN A CLEAR, MYLAR DUST JACKET Original, Clean, Solid, Antique Book Handsome Frontispiece Illustration of General Cleburne in Uniform; Contains Illustrations and Maps Throughout Contains Official Correspondence and Reports; An Appendix; Fully Indexed THIS BOOK IS PUBLISHED BY THE NEALE PUBLISHING COMPANY, IN 1908 IN TALL COTTON #16 This extraordinary volume includes the history by General Patrick Cleburne's highly-observant Assistant Adjutant General, Irving A. Buck, regarding General Cleburne and his command - a classics in Confederate literature. It is unquestionably one of the finest Confederate memoirs of the Western Theater.

General Patrick Cleburne was one of those rare civilians with little military training who during the Civil War developed unusual attributes of leadership both on and off the battlefield. He generated confidence in his judgment and ability and attracted men to him. His reputation as a leader, disciplinarian and fighter spread throughout the Southern Confederacy and was not unknown to the opposing armies of the Union. He was the idol of his command, a division - like its leader - unsurpassed for courage, energy and endurance by any other in the Confederacy.

Cleburne commanded the respect of his men, but he earned it. This extraordinary commander was truly one of the Confederacy's finest, most effective, most visionary, and courageous commanders. Buck provides considerable biographical data on Cleburne's pre-war career, as well as on his military activities. The book is both a biography of Cleburne and a history of his command. The services of Cleburne's units are provided with care and skill and Buck's book is one of the finest dealing with the campaigns of the Army of Tennessee.

The pages have no smudging, stamps or pasteboards. There is a touch of foxing (more like yellowing that actual spots) to some pages, mostly those with the maps or those next to a map page. The book has solid binding throughout, except that the front hinge has a paper crack with some separation but is holding well. The book features a frontispiece illustration of General Cleburne in uniform and the tissue guard is in fine condition. The book contains other illustrations as well as several battle maps.

The book is loaded with official reports by Cleburne and others, and Appendix with letters, and is fully indexed. Overall a very nice, original, first edition of Cleburne and His Command.
