Colonel Thomas Jefferson Jordan a native of Dauphin County, PA, PA was given command of the 9th Pennsylvania Cavalry and saw a lot of action. In 1862 he was captured by John Hunt Morgan's forces in Kentucky, and after months in Libby Prison was paroled, resumed command in the battles in Tennessee, and was promoted by request of General George Thomas for his unit's defense of the Union Right by Thomas at Chickamauga, Georgia. Jordan commanded a Cavalry Brigade in the Georgia Campaign of 1864, including the March to the Sea, and led the troopers in the Georgia and Carolina Campaigns so ably that he was promoted to command of a Cavalry Division at Savannah, December, 1864. An Original Civil War Order extract issued at HQ 3rd Cavalry Division'Near Savannah, Ga Dec 29, 1864 announcing he has taken command of the Division by Command of General Kilpatrick. And signed by Captain LS Essex as AAG.
