CIVIL War New York General Louis Fitzgerald Signed Mourning Card

  

General Louis Fitzgerald enlisted with the 1s t New York Militia in 1861, and was wounded in action at the First Battle of Manassas. In 1862 He was commissioned to the 40th New York Volunteers and served 2 years in the Army of the Potomac, including Provost Marshal and Aide de Camp to General Phil Kearny.

He was wounded in action at Fair Oaks, Virginia in 1862 and was one of the few officers to be awarded the Kearny Cross. An Original Mourning Card with black mourning margin, signed bold ink Very Sincerely Yours Lewis Fitzgerald Brig. Dating the card to Post-War.

General Fitzgerald was also wounded in action at Williamsburg. He served until the End of the War as Lt Colonel and Postwar was a General in the New York Militia.
