1884 George Cadwalader, Civil War & Mexican American General, Signed Letter, Law
I have for sale an original post Civil War by Attorney George Cadwalader. General Cadwalader was a Brigadier General in the Mexican American War. He volunteered at the beginning of the Civil War, and was appointed as a Major General, and shortly after the military commandeer of Maryland. He played a vital role in the landmark case Ex parte Merryman. He had his headquarters at Fort Mchenry, where John Merryman was held for aiding the confederates, suspending habeas corpus. The letter is addressed to a A. Smith and comes with the original envelope.
I've provided some enlarged photos below to let you read the letter better, but it is difficult to make out. If you have any questions, and/or need more photos, please send me a message.
