GENERAL McCLELLAN RECOUNTS HIS CIVIL WAR SERVICE IN A WAR-DATED LETTER 1864. American soldier and Union commander in the American Civil War. Good War-date Autograph Letter Signed, "George McClellan".

Orange, New Jersey, April 28, 1864. My dear Prine, I have just received yours of the 26th and with pleasure give you the information you desire. At the close of the Peninsular Campaign I sailed from Fortress Monroe on the evening of the 23rd August 1862, reached Acquia Creek on the morning of the 24th, and forwarded to Alexandria on the 26th, having in the meantime visited Fredericksburg etc.

From that time until placed in command of the defenses of Washington my headquarters were in Cary, about one mile north of Alexandria. Very sincerely your friend George McClellan. Finding a recounting of one's service record, by a high ranking officer, during their active military service is highly unusual. This McCllelan is just superb!
