Offered today is a highly desirable War-Date envelope by the youngest General ever appointed in our history! At the age of 20, President Abraham Lincoln appointed Galusha Pennypacker to Brigadier General, making him the only General appointed by a President that they weren't even old enough to vote for. Pennypacker ended up having a long and illustrious career in the Army, but war-date items of him are the most valued.

This envelope is signed in dark ink, G. It was common for commanders to sign these "soldier letters" during the war before they were mailed.

This envelope has a wonderful cancellation stamp from March 1864 in Port Royal, South Carolina. The envelope is framed with reproduction photograph of the General and measures approximately 11.5" X 14.5".
