Humphreys commanded the 2nd Army Corp in the battles at Petersburg & the pursuit of Lee's Army to Saylors Creek & Appomattox. Humphreys also wrote a classic first hand account of the Campaigns of 1864-65. He is honored internationally for his contributions to the understanding of river flooding and navigation and a founder of the National Academy of Science.
