The 28th Louisiana Volunteer Infantry was organized at Monroe, La in 1862 and served in Louisiana & Mississippi 1862-65. An Original Civil War Confederate Commissary Invoice for commissary grain sacks transferred by by Captain GA Woodward to Captain MW Johnson, May 15, 1863 when the regt was at Vicksburg, Mississippi. The 1p 8 x 6 Invoice is ink written and signed by Captain Woodward as Assistant Commissary. Comes w service info for Captain Woodward who enlisted at Opelousas, Louisiana, 1862 as sergeant, promoted to ACS in 1863 by General Martin L Smith, a distinguished combat commander at Vicksburg. The invoice was after the unit defended the Confederate line at Chickasaw Bayou and issued a week before Grant's failed Assaults on Vicksburg.
After the fall of the City the men were paroled and many served in the Red River Campaign incl the Battle of Pleasant Hill. Written on crude brown lined Confederate paper, with age stains, edge wear. NOTE: Any repair to a paper item is listed.
