Authentic Civil War 1862 Cast Iron Picture/ Mirror Frame Eagle & General. Unfortunately, the original condition was not suitable to hang in your home. On the enclosed pictures of when we bought it, you can see the condition was very bad and we could not save the original finish. We had the frame sandblasted with Jewelers sand and sealed in a hot lacquer primer with a new mirror made up.

As you can see on the reverse side of the frame, only one of the original iron prongs that holds the mirror In place is still left. Three of them have been broken off.

All three could be drilled out and replaced. As you can see, both of the original hanger mounts are still in the frame. The picture from the Smithsonian will give you an example of what most people painted their frames to look like. This is an extremely rare cast Iron Civil War Antique. The frame has no breaks, cracks, or chips. The mirror is a brand new replacement. The size is approximately 19 3/4 inches x 11 11/16 inches and 1 inch deep. The size of the mirror is 9 1/4 x 7 7/16 and has been professionally glued onto the frame. You will look a long, long time before you find another one like this.
