There is a previous owner inscription at the top of the front free end-page which states, Compliments of David Shields, Lieutenant / Personal Aide-de-camp to General Alexander Hays. David Shields, along with General Hays were part of "dragging the rebel flag" at Gettysburg after Pickett's Charge. This book is scarce in the trade.
