GENERAL TURNER ASHBY KNIGHT OF THE CONFEDERACY BY FRANK CUNNINGHAM SIGNED AND INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR FIRST EDITION FINE CONDITION BOOK NEAR FINE CONDITION DUST JACKET PROTECTED IN A CLEAR, BRODART COVER Original, Sharp, Clean, Solidly-Bound, Antique Book Handsome Confederate Flag Display on End Pages Richly Illustrated Throughout the Book PUBLISHED BY THE NAYLOR COMPANY, SAN ANTONIA, TEXAS, IN 1960 From the pen of versatile Frank Cunningham, comes this stirring and significant biography of Confederate General Turner Ashby. Brilliantly written and highly researched, this wonderful biography has long been out-of-print and hard to find. Proud of his men and his capable horse artillery, Ashby has been recreated within these pages as the vibrant, dashing, fearless and bold figure he was. Born in 1838 of an aristocratic Virginia family at Rosebank Plantation, Fauquier County and descended from an English family of nobility, Ashby was the son of Colonel Ashby who distinguished himself during the War of 1812. His brothers, James and Richard, served the South and all three men went to their deaths for the Cause in which they believed. Ashby, forsaking home and loved ones, put the ideal of freedom from oppression uppermost in his mind. Interwoven in the narrative are the careers of General "Stonewall" Jackson, Joseph E.

Johnston, "Jeb" Stuart, Robert E. Here we come to know Ashby and see him at the battles of Kernstown, Winchester, Richmond and other places as he serves as the "the eyes and ears of Stonewall Jackson" joining in the valiant struggle to protect and maintain the beautiful Valley of Shenandoah from the blue-coated invaders.

The fervent convictions of Frank Cunningham and his love and respect for the South and her Rights are ever present.
