GENERAL JOHN ADAMS DIX BRADY CDV 1862 PHOTO. 1879 was an American politician and military officer who was Secretary of the Treasury, Governor of New York and Union major general during the Civil War. Was an American photographer, one of the earliest and most famous in American history. Best known for his scenes of the Civil War, he studied under inventor Samuel Morse, who pioneered the daguerreotype technique in America. PHOTOGRAPHER MATHEW BRADY'S IMPRINT ON THE MOUNT'S REVERSE.
