ORD, EDWARD OTHO CRESAP (1818-83) Union Major General during the American Civil War; Led a Division under General Ulysses S. Grant at the battle of Iuka and a Corps during the Siege of Vicksburg; Veteran of the Seminole & Western Indian Wars. Two pages, on separate leaves of a folded, officially imprinted 5" x 8" letter-sheet, tipped to heavier backing.

From his post in San Francisco, Ord recommends a twice-wounded Civil War veteran for the consideration of Civil War Colonel John McLean Taylor, who was brevetted to the rank of brigadier general just two months later.
