Davis Stanley Medal Honor, Civil War General, Autograph, Battle of Franklin 1864

  

Stanley [1828 1902] was a Union general during the American Civil War. General Stanley was a well-respected division commander during numerous key battles during the war. In November 1864, during the Battle of Franklin while opposing Confederate general John Bell Hood, he repelled Hoods advancement, saving the line and earning the Medal of Honor for his actions and leadership. After the war he served in the Dakota Territory and commanded the Yellowstone expedition in 1874.

Stanley signed on a page. Stanley'' and he added his rank''Maj Genl'' in black fountain pen. The page measures 4.00 x 3.00 inches, it has trivial toning otherwise in very good condition and affixed to a larger page. The autograph is authentic, part of a Civil War collection we acquired, removed from the above book. The autograph is uncommon, ideal for display and is a desirable example of this prominent Army commander and Medal of Honor recipient.
