Confederate Surgeon William Green enlisted at Harper's Ferry, April 19, 1861 with Colonel A. Hill's 13th Virginia Infantry, and was promoted to Surgeon 4 months later. An Original Certificate of Application for the Confederate Cross of Honor for "Major & Chief Surgeon William Green", listing his service as enlisting April, 1861, 13th Virginia a resident of Culpeper County, VA, and discharged by parole at Appomattox, Ct H. April 10, 1865 as Chief Surgeon of Artillery, Lt General R.

Anderson's Corps, Army of Northern Virginia, The Certificate is signed by William Green, at Baltimore, MD. And also by comrades Samuel D D Buck and James M Garnett as Commanders Camp 747 UCV, and is signed and Approved by Order of Commander Buck, Commander Camp 577, United Confederate Veterans, and finally also signed by Adjutant Spencer M Grayson.

UCV Commander Samuel Dawson Buck of Winchester, Va served 4 years w the 13th Virginia and was author of his Memoir "With the Old Confederates". James M Garnett, Rockbridge Artillery served as Ordnance officer on General Stonewall Jackson's staff, commanded the Reserve Ordnance Train and surrendered at Appomattox. Adjutant Spencer Grayson served w the 2nd Maryland. NOTE: Any repair to a paper item is listed.
