An original Union Army Military Pass issued at St Louis, Missouri by command of Colonel John McNeil for B. O Stanley to pass beyond the limits of the City and County of St Louis to go to Illinois and Iowa. The Pass is issued by Ticket Agent JH Calhoun and bears an impressed seal, and is signed and approved by Colonel John McNeil, 19th Regiment Missouri Volunteers, as the St Louis Provost Marshal, The reverse gives a physical description of Stanley and is signed by him attesting that he is Loyal to the Union and if captured in arms against the Union or in any way aiding her enemies, the penalty will be Death. He stopped Marmaduke's forces at Cape Girardeau and in 1865 he saved the Missouri capitol at Jefferson City from Price's Army and defeated Price at the Battle of Newtonia. NOTE: Any repair to a paper item is listed.
