General James Cooper commanded a brigade of Maryland Volunteers serving in the Shenandoah Valley and West Virginia until 1862 when he was given command of Camp Chase, Ohio. An Original Civil War 8 x 6" section of a company muster roll ink signed by General Cooper, October, 1862, at "Cam (likely Camp Chase, Ohio where General Cooper was commandant at this time), with the reverse naming some men of the 6th & 108th Ohio last paid August -Sept, 1862 and enlistees of the 33rd Kentucky not yet paid since Enlistment. General Cooper died at Camp Chase March 1863. Comes w service info for General Cooper, a native of Frederick, Maryland. 1p 8 x 6 ptd/ink.
