CIVIL War General George W Morgan Autograph Letter
General George W Morgan fought in the Texas War of Independence as a youth and was in command of the City of Galveston. During the Mexican War he served as Colonel of the 2nd Ohio and was awarded a gold sword by the Citizens of Ohio. He is best known for his service during the Civil War as Sherman's Division Commander at the Battle of Chickasaw Bluffs, Vicksburg, where Sherman unfairly criticized him for the Union defeat- A few months later he successfully led his command of the 13th Corp in the Battle of Arkansas of Fort Hindman, Arkansas. Post (aka The Fort Hindman Assault). An Original Letter from General Morgan, at Washington DC, dated May 31, 1872- in compliance with a request he provides this autographed letter, signed "Maj Gen George W Morgan". 1p 8 x 5 ink on lined fine stock paper. Minor age stains and edge wear, reverse with glue spots, Overall VG. NOTE: Any repair to a paper item is listed. I use only museum curator approved archival repair tape.
