General George G Meade is known. As the Victor of Gettysburg and took command of the Union forces at Gettysburg on very short notice. This is a rare photo of the general out of uniform. The general looks rather gaunt here, perhaps taken when home to recover from an early Civil War injury. Meade's brigade at Glendale on June 30, 1862 lost 1400 men and he himself was shot in the right arm and through the back. He was sent home to Philadelphia to recover. Whenever this photo was taken it is a one of a kind image of Gen Meade!
