Civil War Books This wonderful, First Edition book is the respected and detailed account of General Braxton Bragg's wartime service. The book provides excellent insights into General Bragg's role in the Civil War and contains copious quotations from letters and documents. General Braxton of the Confederate Army is one of the more controversial figures of the Civil War period. Nearly every modern writer on that period of American history has been highly critical of Bragg. The judgment of Bragg's contemporaries was no less severe; many of Bragg's subordinates were certain something was wrong with their commander.

One general swore he would never fight again under Bragg's command; another threatened to resign from the army and to challenge Bragg to a duel. No one doubted Bragg's ability when the Civil War began. Mexican War hero, retire army Lieutenant Colonel, he was one of the most distinguished soldiers to join the Confederacy, and for a time one of the most impressive.

He rose quickly from brigadier to full general, yet by 1863 Bragg was the South's most discredited commander. Bragg is presented as his contemporaries saw him and as he saw himself. THIS BOOK IS IN FINE - CONDITION This wonderful, 92 year old, First Edition book is in excellent overal condition. Bound in textured, Confederate gray colored covers, with gold lettering on the spine, the book has solid binding throughout. The exterior is clean and the lettering is sharp and bright.

The cover has two bumped corners. The book has no discernable edge wear. The interior is clean and the pages have some lite foxing. The book is signed by North Carolina historian and teacher, Archibald Henderson and it has his bookplate (see photos). There are some occasional red pencil markings, annotatd by Henderson on some pages.

The pages are all nice, clean and in excellent condition. The book features a frontispiece illustration with facsimile signature of General Bragg. The binding is solid throughout the book; it has no looseness or lean and both hinges are fine. Overall this is a nice, First Edition, antique book.
