AUTHENTIC CIVIL WAR CDV GENERAL ADELBERT AMES BRADY'S NATIONAL GALLERY/ANTHONY. Arte de visite photograph, dating from American Civil War. Ames served in the regular artillery and was severely wounded at Bull Run before becoming Lt. Colonel of the later-to-be-famous 20th Maine. Ames was promoted to Brigadier General in May 1863 and commanded a brigade in Francis Barlow's division of the 11th Corps.
Ames was brevetted regular Colonel for "gallantry" at Gettysburg and temporarily assumed command of his division. Ames earned numerous wartime brevets and was later awarded the Medal of Honor for "gallantry" at Bull Run in September 1893.
CDV was published by Anthony (from Brady National Portrait Gallery negative); photo measures 2 3/8" x 4" and has partially torn blue-green two-cent revenue stamp and collector's notes in pencil on back. CDV in good vintage condition overall but a few minor imperfections worth noting: small partial tear to front at top, along.
