1864; Wallace: The Hero of Scotland; and Speke and Grant's Travels and Adventures in Africa. A substantial period-bound collection preserving these scarce illustrated publications in a single volume. Richly illustrated throughout with numerous full-page wood engravings depicting Civil War battles and camp scenes, African exploration, wildlife, Scottish historical episodes, and adventure fiction. Bound in contemporary quarter morocco with marbled paper-covered boards.

Binding remains sound and attractive with light rubbing to extremities; text block firm. Interior generally clean with scattered foxing and age toning, heavier on some title pages, but the engravings remain bold and highly attractive. A visually striking and uncommon Victorian sammelband combining Civil War history, exploration, and popular illustrated literature, offering considerably more appeal than the individual pamphlet issues alone. A scarce and desirable survival for collectors of Civil War Americana and nineteenth-century illustrated books.
