Frontispiece portrait, engraved plate, engraved full page map. This is a comprehensive history that traces the military career of Civil War general P. Beauregard, who fought at critical battles like Fort Sumter, First Bull Run and Shiloh.

Written by a Southerner, it has an unmistakable Confederate slant, and is thus representative of the Lost Cause literature that was popular after the war. Condition: As you can see the leather back cover of volume one is detached and the leather front cover of volume two is detached. There are some pencil mark numbers inside second page of some numbers and that is the only markings I can find in either book.

Hopefully the covers can be repaired to save this great piece of history. Please see all pictures for condition.
