Union Civil War General Carl Schurz Signature Card German Revolutionary
This small card bears the ink signature of Carl Schurz. A German revolutionary who emigrated to the United States following the Revolution of 1848, Schurz was a prominent member of the Republican Party and a friend to Abraham Lincoln. He served nobly in the Civil War as a division commander in both the eastern and western theaters. After the war Schurz served as a US senator from Missouri from 1869-75 and was Secretary of the Interior in the Hayes administration. The card measures about 3 1/4" x 2" and is in excellent condition. Please see my other items for more interesting Civil War letters, documents, and images.
