Original CDV; 4" x 2.5"; very good or excellent antique condition. Signed in ink on the back. Carlin, William Passmore (1829 - 1903). (IL, USMA 1850, #1469) Carlin was posted to the 6th Infantry upon graduation, and fought the Sioux and Cheyennes in mid-decade.

At the beginning of the Civil War he entered Volunteer service as Col. Of the 38th IL Infy. He won brevets as MG Vols.

And BG and MG USA. After the war he again was posted to the frontier and promoted to Colonel in 1882. He was retired by statute in 1893. Cdv with backmark of J. Campbell, 20th Army Corps Photographer, Army of the Cumberland.
