In 1831 he married Mary, Daughter of the adopted son of George Washington. In 1861 Lee was strongly against secession but felt obliged to be on the side of Virginia his home state. Federal Authorities offered Lee the command of the Army to invade the South. Lee refused and went to Richmond.
He was made a Brigadier General in the Confederate Service. This sculpture started with an actual death cast mask of Robert E. Then it has been sculpturaley enhanced by me Erick Erickson. The Hair, eye brows and beard have been added.
The eyes have been sculpted open reflecting determination. The Uniform, collar and cravat are all cast from the real things so you can see every stitch.
The detail is what makes it live. The result is now when you look at this work of art it is Robert E. Lee just as he sat for the photos by Julian Vannerson in 1863. Now you can own this wonderful and affordable Life Size Bust of this dedicated leader of men. It would be great for your Home, Office, School, Public Building or Library. The finished piece is cast in USG's gypsum cement, it will last forever. It is finished in Memorial Bronze then rubbed with an antiquing overlay to bring out the detail. The piece is then sealed with a clear coat to preserve the finish. The bust can stand alone on any flat surface or it can be hung on the wall because the back is flat it comes with hanging instructions and the screw. This mask is one of a LIMITED EDITION signed and numbered by me Erick Erickson the artist. It measures 13 3/4 X 10 inches it is life size , Lee was a very large man.
