Up for sale is an exceptionally rare Civil War era general's campaign chest/boot box. This piece comes out of a plantation estate in historic Thomasville GA.

It is believed that Gen. Gatlin may have been a confederate militia general during the American Civil War due to the immediate location and lack of readily available information found. A seasoned civil war collector may be able to find more information. This historic piece is made of pine and measures 10.5inx12.5inx18.5in. The visible circular saw marks in the pine dates this chest to c.

The magnificent artwork on the chest features a ribbon bearing the general's rank/name, and an amazing golden eagle surrounded by what looks like lightning bolts and six stars. There is a spectacular studded star on the lid which appears to be missing a couple studs. The underside of the lid features a nailed leather strap which may have held pipes or pens for traveling. The box appears to have never had any compartments or dividers in its past.

The chest does have chips, dings, and scratches correct to a chest of its age and exciting past. Please feel free to ask any questions or for more pictures!
