CDV of General Richard S. Satterlee, a medical officer who during the Civil War served in the Medical Purveyor's Office in New York City. He was also the inventor of a bone saw with a pistol grip used in amputations, a design still in use today. On the reverse is the New York backmark Mathew Brady's studio, along with remnants from a previous album placement. Brady's mark also appears under the portrait at the base of the mount.
