The book presents an account of Custer's entire life beginning with his birth and continuing through his death.
It provides a wonderful treatment of Custer's many battles and campaigns from the various wars in which he was engaged. George Armstrong Custerwas a cavalry commander in the Civil War and the Indian Wars. Graduating last in his class at West Point and with the outbreak of the Civil War, all potential officers were needed, and Custer was called to serve with the Union Army. He developed a reputation for aggressiveness during the Civil War.
By the end of the war, Custer was promoted to the temporary rank (brevet) of Major-General. His troops played a decisive role in the final days of the Civil War around Appomattox and Custer was present at the surrender there. After the Civil War he was dispatched to the West to fight in the Indian Wars.Following many battlefield successes, Custer was killed at the Battle of Little Bighorn fighting which has come to be named Custer's Last Stand. THIS BOOK IS IN NEAR FINE - CONDITION This original, first edition book is handsomely bound in brown-colored cloth covers with extensive decorative highlights and gold background lettering on the cover and spine. The exterior is clean and has one lightly bumped corner. It has light rubbing and a touch of edge wear.
The book remains attractive overall, but the gold, background lettering has faded some. The interior is clean and to book is free of any writing. It has a touch of lite foxing on the frontispiece tissue guard and title page. The book has no stamps or pasteboard.
It is not an ex-library book. The binding is solid throughout the book and the hinges are fine, but some binding cords are starting to show on some pages. The book features a portrait illustration of Custer as a frontispiece, with original tissue guard intact.
