Wade Hampton III [1818 1902] was an American military officer who served as a cavalry officer with the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. Hampton personally organized the''Hampton's Legion'' which he commanded and played a key role at the First Battle of Bull Run [Manassas].

He rose to the rank of lieutenant general and commanded at the Peninsula Campaign, Battle of Fredericksburg, Brandy Station and Gettysburg. After the death of Jeb Stuart in May 1864, Hampton assumed command of the Confederate cavalry corps and was instrumental in protecting Richmond and Petersburg. After the war he served as governor of South Carolina and as a member of the U. The autograph is signed''Wade Hampton So. The card measures 4.00 x 2.25 inches, it has toning/soiling otherwise it is in very good condition.
