This CDV of Quincy Adams Gillmore shows the Union general in a 3/4 pose. He wears his major general's frock coat with one hand resting on the hilt of his sword while the other hand holds a slouch hat at his side.
On the reverse is the backmark of E. Anthony of New York with credit to the Mathew Brady negative. This would have been shortly before Quincy's troops, who had been engaged for most of the war in the area of Charleston, South Carolina, would be sent north to join Benjamin Butler's Army of the James in the Spring campaign of 1864. The carte measures about 2 1/2" x 3 5/8", with a slightly trimmed bottom edge of the mount. The pencil notations on the reverse are modern.
