The 5th MA fought at the Battle of First Bull Run, participated in several expeditions and engagements while stationed at New Bern, North Carolina, including the Battle of Goldsborough Bridge, and assisted with the defence of Washington, DC while stationed at Fort McHenry in Baltimore, Maryland. WITHIN THE PHOTOGRAPH IS THE REGIMENTAL FLAG THAT READS 5TH REGT. AND UNION GENERAL JAMES DURRELL GREENE. Fitton, printed at 345 Main Street in Worcester, contains the regimental flag at the top center reading 5th Regt. Measures 12 by 10 inches, and in fine condition with soiling and toning, especially on the verso.
