Lorenzo Thomas [1804 1875] was a United States Army officer and general who served in the Union Army during the American Civil War. Thomas began his military career in 1823 and was a veteran of the Seminole Wars and the Mexican- American War. In 1861, President Abraham Lincoln appointed him as the Adjutant General of the U. Army serving throughout the American Civil War.

During the war in 1863, Thomas ordered the recruitment of freed black slaves into the U. Army, creating the Bureau of Colored Troops. The autograph is signed''L. Army Washington, April 13th 1869'' in black fountain pen. The card measures 5.00 x 3.00 inches; it has trivial toning otherwise in fine condition.
