This item is a facsimile, but one of the rarest non-original items from the post Civil War Period. This is a rare reprint of Civil War Confederate Gen Thomas Jackson's last dispatch to Gen. Lee This is one of the exceedingly rare and is a limited 1880 production copy of the last or final dispatch made by General Thomas Jackson to Confederate General Robert E.

Lee prior to the Chancellorsville, Virginia, battle. These few and rare facsimiles were manufactured by a Richmond, Virginia firm around 1880 and are very nicely done.

Substantial institutional collections are host to only a limited number of these. Over the years they have always when viewed or located, created a stir among collectors due to the absolute likeness of the facsimile. The Virginia State Library collection is thought to contain the original dispatch. This item came to us upon our acquisition of a collection from the estate of a former Virginia resident. It has been on display in our South Carolina Civil War Museum until our retirement.

The document has been stored under protective glass for over a decade.
