Civil War President Andrew Johnson Signed Military Appointment Brigadier General Carroll Hagadorn Potter. Historically significant for mutiple reason making it easily worth this price. The document is signed by Edwin Stanton Secretary of War and by President Andrew Johnson in 1867.

It is also awarded to a historically war hero who had an almost 50 year career in the military. Carroll Hagadorn Potter born october 1838 in Rhode Island would first see conflict in the Mexican american war as an commanding officer which he saw conflict in many battles. His service and intelligence would earn him an appointment to the us military academy West Point. He would leave West Point prior to graduating possibly due to growing conflict but he is still honored as a West Point member so im assuming he left due to offical military purpose.

In the Civil War he served as the assistant adjutant general on the staff of 4 famous civil war generals. At this time he would he promoted to LT Col in the 6th United States Volunteer Infantry. For his honorable and meritorious service Lincoln just a month before his passing would honor him with the Brevet rank of Brigadier General.

Of course the official document would not be award until a few years later as was common. He would serve as a military commander until 1900 when he was 62. He died 1 year after retiring from the military serving from the Mexican War all the way until the end of the Spanish American war. From my research this is the only known remaining exisitng posession of General Potter making it very rare and very uniqne not to mention all the other things it has going for it! Very historic early military document. Document is currently framed in a very large and heavy frame. As for condition the document shows the expected wear that you would see on a documented folded up for at least 140 or so years. Appears to have been in this frame maybe for the past 10 years or so maybe less. Overall condition is very good but it has minor issues to note the litte wear on a few of the seems and some edge wear but overall it is very solid and if framed properly for its value i believe it would loom near perfect framed.. Any questions feel free to ask!
