Crawfish Springs, Georgia, the Plantation of James Gordon, owner of Lee & Gordon Mills was the Union Army HQ and a field hospital during the Battle of Chickamauga. An original Union Army General Order issued at Headquarters Dept of the Cumberland, Crawfish Springs, Geo, September 17, 1863, announcing General Morton takes command of the Army Engineers. This field order was printed at Crawfish Springs as the Battle of Chickamauga began.

Postwar, the Town of Chickamauga grew up around the plantation. Today Crawfish Springs Park is a beautiful, actiive freshwater spring with verdant aquatic vegetation, nestled in the popular & historic town of Chickamauga of lovely antebellum homes, Civil War monuments and the site of plantation the home of Cherokee Chief John Ross. The original Lee & Gordon Mill survives as a National Historic Monument.
