CIVIL War General Samuel Breck -wife's 1865 Letter Re Railroad Stock Shares

  

We are offering a letter, dated January 5, 1865, to the Treasurer of the Old Colony and Fall River Railroad Company from Sarah A. Breck, wife of Civil War Lieutenant Colonel Samuel Breck.

The letter has a revenue stamp affixed to it. In the letter Sarah Breck asks the treasurer to remit the amount of the dividend due on her shares in the Old Colony and Fall River Railroad Co.

And the dividend due on her shares of the Old Colony and Newport Railroad Co. Apparently, she wants the dividends to be sent to her husband as she writes the address as Lieut. Assistant-Adjutant General, War Department, Washington D.

Served as Assistant Adjutant General to General Irwin McDowell's Division in the Army of the Potomac, and Assistant Adjutant General of the Department of the Rappahannock. He was engaged in the occupation of Fredericksburg, Virginia was part of the Expedition to the Shenandoah Valley to intercept the retreat of the Confederate Army under General Stonewall Jackson, and was brevetted Brigadier General.
