The obverse of the mount shows Mrs Julia Grant sitting sideways on a chair. Grant suffered from strabismus (crossed eyes) but refused to have the condition treated as a child. That is why she always posed in profile. The condition of this stereoview is very good to excellent considering it's age The images of Mrs. Grant are sharp with good contrast.

Julia Boggs Grant ; (1826 - 1902) who besides being the wife of General U. Grant, who was the commander- in - chief of the Union armies during the Civil War she also became the the First Lady of theUnited States when her husband in 1868 was elected the 18th President of the United States. Her time marked a turning point in her life, when she became a national figure.
