1860s Antique Tintype Photograph General McClellan & Wife Civil War Era

  
This is an original 1860s tintype photograph showing General McClellan and his wife. The tintype is 100% authentic but the image is a photo of either a period print or touched-up photograph. I believe it is a photo of an engraving. It was very common during that time to take photos of prints or other photographs as it was not easy to duplicate tintypes. In the years after, it was easier to duplicate photos when they developed on paper. The tintype is in excellent condition and measures approximately 2-3/8" x 3". It comes in the original case but the case is in very poor condition; someone put a piece of black electrical tape as a hinge to hold the two pieces together. It is also missing one of the sides as you can see in the photo. General McClellan was very famous. It would have been very profitable for a studio to make many photos of him and sell them during the Civil War. Being that they didn't have General McClellan in their studio personally, the next best thing was to find a print or an engraving to duplicate. Please ask if you have any questions.
