1872 Civil War General George Meade Letter of Introduction for Gen. Pennypacker

  
In this autograph letter signed, Meade writes to Pennsylvania Congressman Leonard Myers with the following request: Colnl Pennypacker of Fort Fisher memory and from Chester Co. In this state will hand you this note, and I beg you to introduce him to your city & state fellow members & show him the sights of the Ho[use]-Rep[resentatives]. He is particularly remembered for defeating Confederate General Robert E. Lee at the Battle of Gettysburg. His actions at the Second Battle of Fort Fisher earned him a Medal of Honor.

Written on a 7 3/4" x 5" sheet of stationery imprinted "Headquarters, Military Division of the Atlantic". The letter is framed with the original transmittal envelope addressed in Meade's hand to Myers and a printed General Order issued by Pennypacker in 1876.

All appear to be laid onto an early piece of pasteboard (not examined out of frame). Also included is a 19th century engraved portrait of Pennypacker.
